ABOUT HERR&FRUWelcome to Herr&Fru's (Mr.and Mrs' )homepage!
Herr&Fru Ensemble is a band who plays cinematic folkfusion with a Nordic sound. They come from Bergen, the largest city on the westcoast of Norway, which is beautifully located between seven mountains with the North Sea right outside their window. The wild nature and the weather of the seasons are major influenses in their music. The works of the great composers Edvard Grieg and Geir Tveitt have also inspired Herr&Fru's music. The ensemble combines typical classical instruments as grand piano and cello with the more modern instruments saxophone, electric guitar, electric bass and drums to revitalize the folk-melodies into the present. Herr&Fru have released two digital tracks; Vårflom(2016) and Regnværssuite (2015), you may listen to the music here or find it on itunes, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon, Youtube, Bandcamp.com. Their music has been written for a film that has not yet been made and is characterised by strong and beautiful themes, atmospheric chords and rythmical drive. Agenda for 2016-2017 is to record a debutalbum in studio and play many concerts on festivals and other concert arenas. |

A Concert by the Sea
We played a concert in the lovely church at Herdla last Sunday. This is an island just outside of Bergen. It was a cold and windy Sunday, such as most Sundays ;) but inside this church it was warm and cosy, and it was quite easy to play well, and we enjoyed ourselfs a lot!
The sound was good, the Yamaha grand piano was good, the organ was good and the atmosphere was good. We will come back here any time! |

Inspiration - a trip to a Glacier
This February we went to Loen, which is a small village between tall mountains, glaciers and fjords. The goal was to get some time off from the world, the chaos and noise and collect some good natureexperiences. Hopefully make some music as well.
We visited Briksdalsbreen (glacier) which is a small piece of the lage Jostedalsbreen(glacier). This was an amazing experience! We went off season so it was only us and the nature. Truly amazing! |
Concert Weekend
Herr&Fru Ensemble play at Erdal Kirke and Strusshamn Kirke (at Askøy) the 28th and 29th of January, at 5pm, together with Kameleonorkesteret who are hosting these concerts. The concerts are a part of a concert series of four, where the goal is to play churchmusic in a new way. To keep the core but hopefully develope the music into something new, which is exactly what we in Herr&Fru love. So we are very excited! You are all very welcome to listen to both Bach and Braatun😉
Herr&Fru wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Double Concert
December 18.Herr&Fru participated in two very different concerts. The first one was a cherity concert with many artists in a very special church called Korskirken. Here we performed our new christmas song "Se inn til Jul" (Look inside for Christmas).
After, we performed three songs in the Bishop of Bjørgvin's livingroom on a houseconcert together with Kameleonorkesteret, a wellknown group from Bergen who can perform music within almost any gengre. It became an intimate and beautiful concert that we hopefully will remember when we are old and grey and are remembering how it was to be young:). |
Concert in Bergen Cathedral
09/09/2016
Herr&Fru loves to play in churches because of the great acoustic sound in these old buildings. And in the largest one there is normally an exquisite grand piano as well. This one in Bergen Cathedral has newly been restored, and it was indeed great to play on! (Thanks Tim!) The church itself is also under restoration and we feel very blessed to have played here, because it was an amazing experience! We had a diversity in our audience both in age, gender and geography, quite a lot tourists actually, and we thank all of you for coming to our concert! |
Hello from Canada. We came to your concert and enjoyed it tremendously!Thankyou for your amazing music!

Concert in St.Mary's Church
12/06/2016
This Sunday was a special Sunday for us. We were honoured to be invited to play our music on an evening Mass in THE oldest building in Bergen; St.Mary's Church.
We played three songs; Hope, Fog, and Vårflom as a quartet this time; piano, saxophone, cello and electric guitar.
We thank the cool priest Hildegunn Isaksen who have started up this collaboration with different artists in Bergen.
We celebrate this way of doing things!

Release Vårflom
22/05/2016
We are so happy to have been able to release this new single!! It's been an amazing process, making, recording, and producing the song, as well as making the cover. Herr&Fru is an independent band with no management or label, so everything we accomplish is ALL US! The song was recorded in February this year, and had to be released within Spring, because the name Vårflom means " the way the rivers flood during the Spring". We needed an illustrational cover, and Fru came up with the idea to put a piano into a waterfall during the icemelting. We have an overlaying idea that we want to show pictures of Norwegian nature with our songs, because the nature is our main inspiration, and we want to do it in an artistic way, with no shortcut's. So it's the hard way, or no way ;) May 12th, we where able to realize the project, read more here, and May 22th, the song was released on itunes, Tidal, Spotify, Amazon and our favourite platform Bandcamp.com. Our amazing sound designer Anders Heibø from lyd-design.no has a lot of credit for this production! He makes the instruments sound as good as they are in real life. Thank you, Anders! |
Exquisite! Takes you on a journey, a beautiful B.Topp, Australia, may 2016

Fotoshoot; how to make a cover
The single Vårflom needed a cover, and we came up with the idea to put a piano into a waterfall, to illustrate the title of the song.
Vårflom means " how the rivers flood each Spring, when the snow melts", and we wanted to show this on the cover.
It was an icecold and extraordinare experience. We worked on the piano to make it as light as possible, painted it, drove, wheeled and carried it out to Stalheimsfossen, which is an amazing waterfall close to Gudvangen on the westcoast of Norway. For half a day, we stood in the water, tryed to pose without freezing to death. We are really satisfied with the images, thankyou etphotography, and we hope we can do more crazy natureprojects that will fit our music in the future. For more pictures from the project, and text in norwegian, look here.

First release; Regnværssuite
20/10/2015 Regnværssuite is now available on itunes, Tidal, Spotify, Amazon, Youtube and Bandcamp.com. It's our very first release, and was recorded one fine summersday in a stonechurch in the middel of Bergen City, Nykirken. It is what we call "langlåt" because it is 09:05min long, and it's a sort of lovesong to our town where it rains a lot, hence the name " Suite of Rain". It is written during the fall, and we feel it had to be released in the fall as well. In Norway, people seek indoors when the fall comes, because it get's cold and windy, and we think this song is the perfect song to listen to inside, on the buss, in the car or if you are feeling stressed, we hope you will breath better and relax after you have listened to Regnværssuite. Thank you for checking it out. |
Duo Concert
22/07/2016
This nice and warm summersday we had a lunchconcert in Nykirken in Bergen. This time we played as a duo; piano and saxophone. We didn't anticipate many listeners because of the holidays and because it was at noon, but the cruiceships had just arrived, and we where so lucky that we got to play some of our folkmusic to quite a lot of tourists. We hope we gave them a special Norwegian experience. That is some of our best moments, when we're on holiday, and just unextectedly bumps over something really great that reveals some of the cultural treasure of the land we're visiting. You never know when you'll bump over a gem, so go out there and try different things :) |
Herr&Fru's first concert
12/09/2014
Herr&Fru's very first concert was in one of the largest churches in Bergen; St.Johns Church. We had yet to find out what our goals where or where we wanted to go with our music. We just played. The first set, we played music inspired by folkmusic, and after we played compositions inspired by classical music. This evening Herr&Fru Ensemble was born. And what an amazing arena for a debutconcert! St.John's church, the majestical, red church on top of the world (..or at least on top of Bergen City !), with it's 100 years old Steinway with hammers as soft as butter, perfect for Fru's soft touch. We were truly blissed! |
